“Rosacea is characterized by intense and frequent flushing or blotch, redness, the appearance of “broken blood vessels” on the cheeks, chin, and nose, and in most cases, acne-like pimples. In fair-skinned people, particularly of Scottish, Irish, and English descent, early signs of rosacea may be the pink, flushed cheeks of youth. Eventually, rosacea progresses to a permanent redness of the mid face, cheeks, nose, and chin, along with pustules and red inflammatory acne bumps. Rosacea is often incorrectly referred to as adult acne, but it lacks the comedones (blackheads and whiteheads) of acne vulgaris.

The extract causes of rosacea are unknown, but it is clear that it runs in families. If you suffer from rosacea, you probably also have some components of sensitive skin. Additionally, we believe hormones play a strong role, as many women notice rosacea flares when they are menstruating or during the menopausal years. There are also theories that suggest an infectious component such as H. pylori bacteria or Demodex folliculorum, a certain type of microscopic mite, may play a role. This mite, a normal resident in human skin, lives in hair follicles. Two recent studies revealed that the mites were significantly more numerous in facial skin samples of people with rosacea than in people without the condition. In addition, the mite population peaked on the skin samples of these patients in the spring, when rosacea tends to flare up.

We can sometimes identify pre-rosacea in teenagers and women in there early twenties. They may come to see us with concerns about acne, but because of the “flush and blush” syndrome, we know they are experiencing the early signs of rosacea. Like acne, rosacea in not curable, so we advice our patients to educate themselves, avoid the triggers, and treat the symptoms in an effort to minimize and frequency of flare-ups.”

“Think you’ve outgrown your acne? Think again. Many make the mistake of thinking they’ve been cured of their acne and no longer need an acne regimen when actually their skin is under control because of the regimen they’ve been using. The truth is, acne is not a curable condition, but it is preventable with consistent care. Acne is also cyclical and can fluctuate depending on stress, hormones, environment and lifestyle. Teens tend to have acne for six to seven years while the average adult woman can suffer from acne for up to 20 years.

Ultimately, what keeps skin acne-free is consistent and continuous adherence to a skincare regimen designed to prevent, treat, and diminish the appearance of acne. And trust us, if your skin is looking clear, it’s because the medicines are working. So stick with it!” DermRF

“You may have used up your vacation days, but the sun hasn’t used up its damaging rays. Just because  summer has come and gone doesn’t mean you’re free to play or work unprotected. No matter the season, our world revolves around the sun 365 days a year and along with our orbit comes UVA rays responsible in large part for accelerated aging. And these UVA rays only get worse as fall approaches … they’re actually stronger on cloudy days.

Want proof? Take your UV sensitive silicone wristband out on a cloudy day; you’ll see it turn purple in no time. So make sure to apply a broad spectrum SPF daily for healthy skin year-round”. DermRF

“Dermatologists are frequently called to the set of a movie, Why? Because anyone can be hit with a pimple when it is least welcome. To keep their skin looking perfect, actors and actresses receive a quick cortisone shot. It clears up a pimple in fewer than twenty-four hours. So although you may not be a celebrity, you’ll want to look like one on occasions such as your wedding. If a pimple starts to surface a day or two before the big event, visit your dermatologist to quickly and easily treat your emergency.” DermRF

“Fact: Remember that pores don’t have trap doors that open and close, so water temperature won’t affect the size of your pores”.
